Fitness challenge: Pack of cards workout

This workout’s a great one as you don’t need a lot of space and can do it anywhere – whether you’re at home or on holiday. All you need is a pack of cards…

Take out the jokers and assign each of the four suits – spades, hearts, clubs and diamonds – a different exercise. To add variety to your workout, choose a balance of lower, upper body and core exercises, for example:

Spades: Squat jumps

Hearts: Tricep dips

Clubs: Push ups

Diamonds: Ab crunches

Shuffle your cards well, then take the top card off the pile. Whichever suit it is, you have to do that number of reps corresponding to the suit’s exercise (i.e. if you draw the nine of clubs, you would have to do nine push ups). If you draw a jack, you have to do 11. Queen is 12, king is 13 and ace is just one.

However, the catch is that you have to work your way through the entire deck of cards! You’ll have had a great workout by the end of it and remember, you can always substitute the exercises for more challenging ones as you get stronger.
