Whether you’re trying to reduce your carbohydrate intake or just want new ideas for healthy meal options, pita bread makes a great alternative to traditional burger buns. Here’s a quick and easy pita bread burgers recipe from Danny’s Pita Bread that the whole family will enjoy!
– 4 Danny’s Mini Pitas
– 500 grams lean ground beef
– ½ cup plain low-fat yoghurt
– ⅓ cup cucumber chopped
– 2 tspns pepper herb mix
– ¼ tspn salt
– 1 medium tomato cut into 8 thin slices
– 4 lettuce leaves
PEPPER HERB MIX
– 2 tblspns basil leaves diced
– 1 tbsp lemon pepper
– 1 tbsp onion powder (can substitute for one small grated/finely chopped fresh onion)
– 1½ tspns sugar
Combine yoghurt, cucumber, ½ tsp herb mix and salt in a small bowl, reserve.
Shape ground beef into four 1 ½ cm thick patties. Sprinkle remaining 1 ½ tsp herb mix over both sides of patties.
Heat large non-stick skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes.
Place patties in skillet and cook 6–8 minutes, turning once. Season with salt, if desired.
To serve, place a burger in each Danny’s pita half (split it open), add 2 tomato slices, a lettuce leaf and several dollops of yoghurt.
