Starting the day the healthy way

As we head into the warmer months, Iโ€™ve been inundated with people either talking about getting in shape for summer, reading it in magazines, seeing it plastered all over social media, or downright asking me if I plan to go on health kick before it arrives (thanks a lot!).

Iโ€™ve come to understand that Iโ€™m really just not a crash diet kind of girl. Iโ€™m a big foodie โ€“ always have been, and probably always will โ€“ so thereโ€™s no way I can give up entire food groups or live on juice for a week. Instead Iโ€™ve been making small changes to my eating habits in the lead up to summer, hoping that these minor tweaks will make a difference in the long run.

My sister got me into creating smoothies for breakfast or snacks – nothing revolutionary, but she did introduce me to a few ingredients that Iโ€™d never included before – rolled oats and protein powder.

These definitely kick the regular fruit smoothie up a notch! They help me feel fuller for longer so I donโ€™t find myself devouring the entire contents of my lunch by 10am!

Hereโ€™s the recipe Iโ€™ve been using:

INGREDIENTS

– 1 banana
– 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries
– 1/2 cup trim milk
– 1/2 cup vanilla yoghurt
– 1/2 cup rolled oats
– 2 scoops protein powder (Iโ€™ve been using vanilla whey protein, but whatever you have will do!)

INSTRUCTIONS

Throw everything into a blender (Iโ€™ve been using my trusty Russell Hobbs Blender!) and whizz away until you get a smooth, creamy consistency. Itโ€™s super easy to make, and super yummy โ€“ definitely a win-win!

So give this smoothie a go if you want to shake up your breakfast menu, make a change to eat less, or you just want to snack on something that tastes oh so good!
