Winter detox tips

winter womanDetoxing is often associated with new beginnings in spring, or reinvigorating yourself for summer; however taking the time to do a winter detox can help you reset your food intake, boost your immune system and improve your energy levels.

Here are our top winter detox tips to help you revamp your health in the colder months:

Replace cold smoothies with delicious hot soups

Winter is a great time to get all your vitamins and nutrients from soups – chuck in plenty of vegetables and legumes, go easy on the salt and make sure it’s nice and warm to help get your body temperature up from the inside out.

Stay rugged up

It may be tempting to continue wearing shorts and t-shirts for as long as possible, but holding on to the warm weather is just wishful thinking at this time of year! Dress in layers made of breathable fabric so that you stay warm but won’t overheat, and use socks, scarves, slippers, hats and gloves to keep your head and extremities warm.

Keep yourself active

Following a simple exercise routine at least a few times a week may help boost your immune system to fight off simple bacterial and viral infections. Although it may be tempting to curl up on the couch in front of the fireplace after work, resist the urge and hit the gym or go for a walk instead.

Drink plenty of water and herbal teas

With air conditioning, heating, fires, and drastic temperature changes between indoors and outdoors, it’s easy to get dehydrated. Make sure you drink plenty of water and herbal teas to keep up your intake. If you get sick, adding ginger, lemon juice and medicinal quality honey to hot water is a great winter wellness tonic.
